Woodworking Classes FAQ

Welcome to Martin Model Pattern & Woodworking! Below are answers to frequently asked questions about our woodworking classes. If you have additional questions, feel free to contact us directly!

What are the prerequisites for your classes?

  • 101 Part 1: No prior woodworking experience is needed, this beginner class is open to everyone!
  • 101 Part 2: Completion of 101 Part 1 is required.
  • 101 Part 3: Completion of 101 Part 1 and Part 2 is required.
  • For Project Classes: you’ll need to have completed all 101 classes.

What is the minimum age to attend classes?

Participants must be at least 16 years old
For students under 18, a parent or guardian must sign a liability waiver.

What safety measures are in place?

Mandatory Safety Training: All participants must complete a safety orientation on the first day of class.

Protective Gear: Safety glasses and closed-toe shoes are required at all times in the shop. Dust masks are recommended but not required.

Supervised Use: Power tools and machinery are only used under instructor supervision.

How much do classes cost?

Class Fees:

  • $400 if paying by cash or check
  • $415 if paying by credit card, PayPal, or Venmo

Tools:

Quality tools are essential for success. Budget $200-$300 for tools, which can be purchased through us or independently after consulting with our instructors.


Are tools included in the class cost?

No, tools are not included. However, we offer the option to purchase tools directly from us (new or used) or provide guidance on sourcing them independently. Tools purchased from us are eligible for a "90% buy-back option" if returned in good condition at the end of the term.

How long are the classes?

Each term is 30 hours, typically spread over 10 weeks.
Classes are held in 3-hour sessions once a week.


Can I bring my own woodworking projects to work on?

For our Project Classes, we recommend choosing from the detailed plans and project options provided in our shop literature. These are designed to help you maximize hands-on time. Personal projects may not be suitable, especially for newer students unless you are in the Projects Class


How do I sign up and pay for classes?

All class signups and payments must be completed online via our website.
Payment options: Pay in full or use the 50% deposit option at checkout (balance due 10 days before the class start date).

Can I reserve tools or buy gift cards for classes?

Yes! You can reserve tools for your class or purchase gift cards online. Gift cards are perfect for tools or future classes, an excellent gift for any woodworking enthusiast!

What is your cancellation policy?

Cancellations must be made at least 14 days before the start of class to receive a full refund. Cancellations within 14 days are non-refundable but may be credited toward a future class.
